Dr. Robert C. Helmer became President of Lourdes College (now Lourdes University) on January 1, 2004, having served as Acting President during 2003.
Dr. Helmer joined the faculty as an Assistant Professor in 1996 and has taught in the areas of History and Religious Studies. In 2000, Dr. Robert Helmer was named Associate Professor in the Department of History before his appointment as Vice President for Academic Affairs in 2001.
Prior to coming to Lourdes, Dr. Helmer served as Teaching Fellow and Lecturer at Marquette University and also held teaching positions at Indiana University and Ancilla College. He is a graduate of The University of Notre Dame and The Catholic University of Louvain in Belgium. He received his doctorate from Marquette University and his law degree from The University of Toledo.
Dr. Helmer serves on the Board of Directors of many organizations, including the Sylvania Area Chamber of Commerce, the Sylvania Community Arts Commission, the Toledo Symphony, and the Lucas County Workforce Investment Board. He is also a member of the Toledo Rotary Club.
Dr. Helmer and his wife have two daughters and live in Sylvania Township.
