Sister Ann Carmen Barone brings a passion for the mission of Lourdes University and a wealth of experience with all things Franciscan to her role as Vice President for Mission & Ministry. She also serves as Director of Liturgy for the Sisters of St. Francis.

As a Sister of St. Francis of Sylvania, Ohio, Sister Ann Carmen has taught music and religion at several elementary schools in Ohio and Michigan and at Cardinal Stritch High School in Oregon, OH. She served as Vocation Minister for the Sisters of St. Francis before coming to Lourdes University in 1994. During her tenure at Lourdes she has served as Director of Campus Ministry, music instructor and chairperson of the Music Department.

While growing up in Sandusky, Sister Ann Carmen met the Sylvania Franciscans and entered the Congregation after graduating from high school. She received an AA degree from Lourdes Junior College, a BA degree from Mary Manse College and a Master of Music degree with a concentration in Music Education and Choral Music from Bowling Green State University. She also earned a certificate in Franciscan Studies from the Association of Franciscan Colleges and Universities.

Sister Ann Carmen was inducted into the Cardinal Stritch Hall of Fame in 2000 and was one of the honorees at the 2011 Franciscan Federation Conference. Many parishes, adult education and music programs have benefited from Sister Ann Carmen’s love of music and liturgical prayer.

Through the Office of Mission and Ministry, Sister Ann Carmen oversees the Department of Campus Ministry and Service Learning. Together they reach out to the entire Lourdes University Community to increase awareness and integration of our Catholic and Franciscan traditions in every facet of University life. Collaborations on campus and with civic and religious communities help us share our Franciscan Values of Community, Learning, Reverence and Service. The addition of the San Damiano Campus Ministry House has given us a space to provide formal and informal gatherings to engage students, faculty, staff and diocesan and community partners. Sister has been instrumental in broadening our awareness of and experience with other Franciscan Colleges and Universities through opportunities such as the Franciscan Online Certificate program, Student and Educators Pilgrimages to Assisi and Rome, and the biannual Franciscan Symposium sponsored by the Association of Franciscan Colleges and Universities.
