Amelia Earhart

February 17

A pioneer in American aviation, Amelia Earhart set many records: first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic and the first woman to earn the U.S. Distinguished Flying Cross. A faculty member of Purdue University, Earhart was also an avid supporter of women's rights and the Equal Rights Amendment.

Mary Ellen Pratt has portrayed Amelia Earhart for 17 years through the Toledo Branch of the American Association of University Women's Women in History Project. A graduate of BGSU, Mary Ellen has taught at Anthony Wayne High School and has served as president of the American Association of University Women. She currently lives on a farm in Perrysburg that has been in the family since 1818.

After graduating from the University of Toledo, Bud served in the US Army during the Korean War. He then settled in Sylvania and ran a wholesale heating and air conditioning company before retiring.

Current Issues Facing the City of Toledo
