Habitat team at the foundationToday was our first day on the job site. Let me tell you it was very satisfying. I would have to say the most exciting and well worth it moment was when we were able to raise the wall we had been laboring on all morning. It was great to see both schools come together and work together side by side to accomplish one goal: to raise the wall. I had a lot of fun learning how to hammer more efficiently (which I can say makes it so much easier), working as a team with complete strangers, seeing how a house is put together, and sharing in the memories that were created today. All in all, I cannot wait to see what this week has in store for us, all that we will learn and how we will all grow spiritually.

Habitat team with raised wallIt’s true what they say: a great start is half the battle. No doubt that is what today was. After having briefly met the other team from Westminster College we were eager and excited to get started on this project together. It was full of hard work and grafting but certainly full of laughter and memories too. We all learned the different skills of building houses and as the day went along you can see both groups mingling and helping one another as we got to know each other. Life is full of meeting new people and what better way to do it than to doing it while helping others. I am confident that if today is anything to go by, the rest of the week is going be such an enjoyable experience and one to remember. Bring on the memories!
