Today some of us attended church service at Victory Baptist Church. We were welcomed with open arms into the service; many people came up to us, shook our hands and introduced themselves, and thanked us for helping their community. Before the service started, we were offered coffee, hot chocolate, or tea by the members of the congregation. During the service, many of us were moved by a quote that the preacher said; it went a little something like this:
“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed individuals can change the world.…” –Margaret Meade
It really brought to light what our mission is here in Maryville, TN. We are exactly that – a small group of individuals ready to put forth all of our differing attributes, utilize our strengths, and be a part of change. We are contributing to the change in this beautiful community. The church service moved me to tears.
I am so touched that this community stands behind the commitment we have to the Lourdes University mission – a community of learning, reverence, and service, as well as our commitment to Habitat for Humanity. There are so many people who stand behind us in our mission and it is of utmost importance to each individual on our team to know how many amazing people are supporting us, both here in Tennessee and back at home.
After church, we visited Cade’s Cove and Gatlinburg and took many pictures along the way. I’m sure you all will be seeing some of the pictures we took! I've included a few from my personal collection :)
On behalf of the 2014 Lourdes University Habitat for Humanity Tennessee Team, I say THANK YOU for all of your support. Without all of you, our mission would be incomplete. Like Preach said during service, you are a puzzle piece in a bigger picture: within the picture you may not see exactly where you should fit, but without your piece, the picture is incomplete.
Stay tuned for tomorrow's blog :) I’m sure it will be full of fun information from our first day on the jobsite!
