College of Business & Leadership Annual Awards

We are proud to honor business students who display excellence in the classroom, a dedication to their community, and the courage to overcome obstacles in the quest for their education. Below are descriptions of the three awards as well as a list of past recipients.

Academic Excellence in Business Award

Name of Award: Academic Excellence in Business (replaced Wall Street Journal Award)

Purpose of Award: Academic Excellence Award

Description: This award will honor the Lourdes University business graduate having the highest academic achievement upon graduation.

Criteria:

  • Graduation in July, December or May of the same academic year. Must have completed 60 credit hours at Lourdes University and 24 credit hours in business at Lourdes
  • BA or BS degree in a major offered by the Department of Business and Leadership

Selection: Final GPA will be selection criteria as described below:

  • Overall GPA earned at Lourdes will be the first selection criteria
  • In case of a tie, GPA accumulated in Lourdes University business courses will be the next selection criteria
  • If a tie still exists, the greater number of hours earned at Lourdes will be the next selection criteria
  • If a tie still exists, a vote of the full-time Lourdes University Business Undergraduate Faculty will be the next selection criteria
  • If a tie still exists, the Dean of the Department of Business and Leadership will make the final selection

Recognition:  A plaque is displayed at Lourdes University. The student’s name will be engraved along with the academic year. The student will receive a full year subscription to Business Week along with a gift that will be presented at the Lourdes University Awards Ceremony held in the spring.

Recipient will also be recognized at the annual business graduation dinner.

Nomination:  No nomination is required. This award will be determined from Lourdes University academic records. All July, December and May graduates will be evaluated; however, the award will not be announced or presented until the Lourdes University Awards Ceremony held in the spring.

Business Student Leadership and Service Award

Name of Award: Business Student Leadership and Service Award

Purpose of Award: To recognize business students who have demonstrated leadership and/or service to the College of Business and Leadership and/or the Lourdes University Community while being responsive to society’s needs and following strong business ethics.

Description: Number of recipients will vary annually (limited to 4).

Criteria:

  • Sophomore, Junior or Senior status
  • Pursuing a BA or BS degree in a major offered by the College of Business & Leadership
  • GPA of 2.5 or higher
  • Service and/or leadership in a position (elected or volunteer) for 6 months or longer
  • Must not have received award previously

Selection: Nominations will be reviewed and selection made by the Business and Leadership department Undergraduate Faculty.

Recognition: Certificates will be presented at the Lourdes University Awards Ceremony held in the spring. A plaque is displayed at Lourdes University. The student’s name will be engraved along with the academic year. A gift will be presented at the Lourdes University Awards Ceremony held in the spring.

Senior recipients will also be recognized at the annual business graduate dinner.

Nomination: Nomination is required. All eligible nominees will be evaluated; however, the award will not be announced or presented until the Lourdes University Awards Ceremony held in the spring. Nomination letters should be submitted to:

Dana Martin Award

Name of Award:  Dana Martin Award

Purpose of Award: To recognize a business graduate who displays the spirit of “failure is not an option” and who completes a degree with distinction.

Description: Dana Martin was a 2001 Lourdes University graduate who overcame many obstacles to achieve graduation with distinction. She was selected for “Who’s Who Among Students in American Colleges and Universities” and her enthusiasm echoed throughout her educational experience here at Lourdes. She was an active community volunteer and a supporter of all Lourdes activities. She was killed in a car accident on December 31, 2001, at the age of 39.

Criteria:

  • A GPA of 2.5 or higher
  • Graduation in July, December or May of the same academic year. Must have completed 60 credit hours at Lourdes University and 24 credit hours in business at Lourdes.
  • BA or BS degree in a major offered by the Department of Business and Leadership.
  • Nomination will be by a letter from a student, faculty or staff member at Lourdes University. Self-nomination is allowed.

Selection:  Nomination letters will be reviewed and selection made by the Business and Leadership department Undergraduate Faculty.

Recognition: A certificate will be presented at the Lourdes University Awards Ceremony held in the spring. A plaque is displayed at Lourdes University. The student's name will be engraved along with the academic year. A gift will be presented at the Lourdes University Awards Ceremony held in the spring. Recipient will also be recognized at the annual business graduate dinner.
