The Lourdes University Choirs Celebrate 31 Years!

The Lourdes University Choral program under the direction of Karen T. Biscay is celebrating its 31th concert season, and is welcoming new members and chorus alumni to the Lourdes University Chorus for the 2014–2015 academic year.

2014 rehearsals begin on August 27 at 6 p.m. in the Franciscan Center on the Lourdes University Campus in Sylvania, Ohio. The Lourdes choirs have performed in Ohio, Michigan, Ontario, Canada, England and Hungary, singing in a wide variety of musical styles and collaborating with many other area choirs and instrumental ensembles.

The Lourdes Chorus is open to community members as well as Lourdes students, faculty and staff. Concerts on campus are planned for October 12, December 7, February 25 and May 3. Our Fall Music Showcase on Sunday, October 12 will feature the Chorus in Aaron Copeland’s Old American Songs and the early-music ensemble Musica Antigua de Toledo will be our guests. We share our December 7 Christmas Concert with the Maumee Community Band. An occasional off-campus gig adds to the variety.

“Seasons Greetings” Lourdes' Annual Christmas Concert

Concert welcomes Maumee Community Band and new University Guitar Ensemble

The Lourdes University Music Department will present its annual Christmas concert, “Season’s Greetings” on Sunday, December 7 at 7:30 p.m., in the Franciscan Center Theatre.

The Lourdes Choirs with Director Karen T. Biscay, and Accompanist Olga Topuzova-Meade, the new Lourdes University Guitar Ensemble with Director Ken Hummer, and the Maumee Community Band with Director Kevin Heidbreder will offer a wide variety of seasonal music at this free concert.

“Season’s Greetings” says it all: The coming of baby Jesus in ancient Latin texts in Francis Poulenc’s Motets pour le temps de Noël, African Noel, The Work of Christmas, Before the Paling of the Stars, and Mary, Did You Know?—celebration with family and friends in a suite of the Alfred Burt Carols – seasonal favorites for band like the Polar Express and Sleigh Ride—cherished carols arranged for classical guitar ensemble—and a crowd-pleasing sing-along medley plus the Halleluiah Chorus!

No tickets necessary—just come and enjoy! Theatre doors open at 7:15 pm. For disability-related accommodations please Email the Office of Accessibility Services or phone 419-824-3523.
