Using Spring And Summer Break To Reach Out To Others

Since 1996, Lourdes students, working through Campus Ministry, have spent Spring Break volunteering with Habitat for Humanity's Collegiate Challenge Program. The Lourdes' Campus Ministry student organization (L.I.N.K.) has taken the lead in organizing, recruiting members and raising funds for these outreach trips. Students work on roofing, painting, landscaping, and have even shared the excitement of starting a house from scratch. Many have had the privilege of meeting and working with the future homeowners, thus putting names and faces on the issues of poverty and affordable housing.

Responding to numerous student requests, the Alternative Break program branched out in 2014 as students assisted in planning a summer project working with the Franciscans For the Poor. Students worked with various social service agencies in the Over-the-Rhine area of Cincinnati, providing services to low-income families and homeless inviduals.
