The purpose of the Sigma Theta Tau Nursing Honor Society is to recognize superior achievement, recognize the development of leadership qualities, foster high professional standards, encourage creative work, and strengthen commitment to the ideals and purposes of the profession.

Criteria for Invitation (Baccalaureate Basic and R.N. Students)

completion of one half of nursing curriculum
overall cumulative grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
rank in the upper 35% of their graduating class in scholarship (GPA)
Selection at Lourdes is determined by cumulative GPA at the end of the summer session of their last year

Basic and R.N. students will be considered for membership within their respective peer group and not as a composite group. The upper 35% of the Basic and R.N. classes will be considered separately for membership.

Community membership

Open to nurses with a baccalaureate degree who have demonstrated marked achievement in education, practice, research, administration or publication. Examples of criteria for community membership can be obtained from the chapter counselors.
