Lourdes University’s Master of Business Administration (MBA) program will be holding an inaugural oath ceremony on Tuesday September 24 in the Franciscan Center at 7:30 p.m. Lourdes President David Livingston, PhD, will serve as keynote speaker.
The purpose of the ceremony is to welcome approximately 50 MBA candidates into the program while officially recognizing their transition into a professional graduate program that will prepare them to become business leaders within their chosen careers. Similar to the Hippocratic Oath, which medical school students take during their course of study, the MBA Oath is a management oath that outlines the values and ideals to which those in business should commit to within their careers.
During the ceremony, Lourdes’ College of Business & Leadership will also share with the community how it approaches the teaching of business as a noble profession. The MBA Oath originated at the Harvard Business School in 2009, by a group of concerned MBA candidates, who felt that there should be a professional credo for business graduates from MBA programs, just as there are for doctors and lawyers. From their humble beginnings a little over four years ago, the MBA Oath project has grown to include more than 300 Universities across the globe and has been embraced by more than 6,000 signers. The Oath Project currently is an alliance of the Aspen Institute, Net Impact, the United Nations, and the World Economic Forum.
