Lourdes University’s 10th President: Dr. Mary Ann Gawelek
The Lourdes University community inaugurated its 10th president, Mary Ann Gawelek, EdD, on October 9th. Delegates from regional and national colleges and universities were in attendance, as were representatives from various organizations and dignitaries in government relations. The inaugural weekend, featured a morning of service, men’s and women’s soccer matches, a performance by the Toledo Symphony, liturgy, and the installation ceremony.
Greetings were offered by Sister Mary Jon Wagner, OSF, congregational minister of the Sisters of Saint Francis; Patrice McClellan, EdD, president of Faculty Senate; Laura Ott, MOL, president of Staff Association; marketing major Zhané Broomfield, president of the Student Government Association; Gloria Stiles (’92), president of the Alumni Association; and the Honorable Craig Stough, Mayor of Sylvania.
Sandra Hylant, JD, chair of the Board of Trustees, officiated the investiture and presentation of the university medallion. In her presidential remarks, Dr. Gawelek outlined her goals and plans during her first year as the institution’s leader. Couldn’t join us? You can watch the video.
Brittanie Kuhr has been appointed as Lourdes University’s Director of Development.
Ms. Kuhr received her master’s degree in higher education from The University of Toledo where her thesis focused on “Donor Perceptions of Cultivation and Stewardship at Lourdes University.” Prior to joining Lourdes, Ms. Kuhr served as the Assistant Director of Development at her alma mater, Adrian College. In that role, she served as a gift officer, managed the annual fund program, stewardship efforts and alumni communications and events. During her tenure at Adrian, Ms. Kuhr researched and implemented innovative approaches to fundraising which resulted in increased engagement and retention at varying levels of giving.

University Relations also posts press releases onto this page. The University page allows for interaction or networking between members; similar to Facebook.

Lifelong Learning at Lourdes
Lifelong Learning is an exciting educational program at Lourdes.
Open to all interested men and women, the only requirement for participation is an interest in ongoing learning!
- Classes in a wide variety of academic subjects
- Day Trips of educational interest
- Monthly Lectures featuring outstanding speakers, held on the third Friday of each month from September through May
All classes are offered for the sheer joy of learning with no tests, exams, or grades. Many are taught by Lourdes instructors or Lifelong Learning members who have a particular area of expertise. As alumni, you are granted a membership to Lifelong Learning, so you can take classes at the member rate.
