Artistically painted cows, frogs, horses and pigs have made their mark across cities such as Chicago, Toledo, Louisville and Cincinnati. These creative sculptures capture the essence of their homes and serve as a source of delight for both residents and visitors.
This spring, the Sylvania Area Chamber of Commerce in partnership with the Sylvania Area Arts Commission will unveil a similar project to highlight the beauty and spirit of the City of Sylvania, known also as the City of Trees.
"Sittin Pretty in Sylvania" will include 60 decorated cedar benches placed throughout the city.
The benches were designed and crafted by local artisans, craftsman and designers. Four of the chosen designs were created by members of the Lourdes College Community.
Winning designs were submitted by Art students Melinda Hallenbeck (Japanese Maple and Cherry Blossom) and Annette Fink (Lourdes Lake and Boats).
Channel 13-ABC chose Melinda's Cherry Blossom Design. Carla Leow, Lourdes staff member and Graphic Designer for AtLourdes magazine, designed the winning Discover Your Place Lourdes bench.
Residents and businesses will be able to vote on their favorite "Sittin Pretty" bench and a People's Choice and Artistic Merit award will be given during the gala unveiling and auction held before the Sylvania Sprouts Garden week at the end of May.
