As a new academic year begins, I am humbled and excited to work with the board, faculty and staff in offering the best education possible to our most valued individuals – our students. As Lourdes University's ninth president, I am steadfast in carrying on the Sisters of St. Francis of Sylvania's mission, and educating our century's next teachers, nurses, and professionals.
The 21st Century is best known for change. Change in technology; change in how we interact with each other; and change in how we do business. Higher education also needs to change. Our students learn and process differently. It is our job to educate them and prepare them to be exceptional individuals – in their professional and personal lives.
Teachers, nurses, and professionals of the 21st Century must be civic-minded and have the innate ability to understand and engage all individuals. In our global society, they will rely heavily on not just their job skills, but their liberal arts skills. In this edition of AtLourdes, you will learn more about our liberal arts foundation and programs, and the faculty, staff and alumni who personify them.
In the coming months, I look forward to meeting you and other members of the Lourdes community. I invite you to return to Lourdes often. Upcoming events include Convocation on Thursday, August 22; Inauguration on Sunday, September 22; and of course, our Gray Wolves home games.
