Having experienced Lourdes as a student and an employee, Laurie is grateful to the learned faculty and staff. "I have grown to love this community; it has become a part of my heart. My dedication comes from St. Francis. He is truly a role model for my life and through his works I strive to live."

Laurie, who created the Lourdes Soup & Scripture program, enjoys working with and serving students through retreats and other programs. "I talk with them on a day-to-day basis and really learn about who they are as individuals. They let me into their lives, their struggles, their joys.

"What a blessing! The simple joy they bring to others and their willingness to be open to something much bigger than themselves is so amazing and inspirational."

Another part of the caring leader's job that she loves is outreach with the broader community. Through the University's Campus Ministry Department, Laurie arranges opportunities for students with several local organizations – Helping Hands of St. Louis Soup Kitchen, Josina Lott, Adopt-A-Highway and Tent City.

Each year, she also works with students building homes around the country during spring break. This summer, she and the students will participate in a new summer outreach project in the Over the Rhine area in Cincinnati.
