The power of one: Anna Malone Toney
Anna Malone Toney, ’14
As the new Executive Director of Leadership Toledo, Lourdes alumna Anna Malone Toney, ’14, is pleased to represent such a valued organization. Dedicated to providing leadership training and development programs to adults and high school students through community involvement, education and networking, she finds her work very rewarding.
“I choose to work for Leadership Toledo because I very much value the impact not-for-profits can have on individuals’ lives. The ability to make a difference, no matter how big or small, is very rewarding. In addition, I am a very ‘on the go’ type person so the variety of experiences I get to have is a plus as well,” she says.
After moving back to the region in 2011, Anna was encouraged by the previous Leadership Toledo executive director to complete the organization’s signature adult program. After successfully graduating from the program, she was offered a position. “Little did I know that just five years later, I would have the honor of taking over. This organization has taught me more about northwest Ohio than I could have ever imagined and I am so grateful,” she adds.
As the leader, Anna directs the strategic and operational goals and responsibilities for Leadership Toledo’s staff, programs and finances while fulfilling the organization’s mission. While at times there is a limit to what the small staff can accomplish, she says they are a mighty team that stays focused – making the most of their time and energy. “In my position, I am presented with so many opportunities within the community. Whether it’s working with a student from one of our youth programs or connecting with a non-profit that we are able to serve, I am always learning something new!”
Inspired by her parents, Anna has always set goals and went about achieving them and her dreams. “My mom and dad were my biggest cheerleaders. I learned that it’s okay when things don’t go as planned. The important part is how you get back up and start again. Now, as a mother of two young girls, I strive to be an example to them.” Recognizing the balance required of a working professional and a mother, Anna hopes that someday her daughters will look back and realize that dedication, passion and perspective are what motivated and grounded their parents.
The talented individual earned a bachelor’s degree in musical theatre from Indiana University and a Master of Organizational Leadership from Lourdes University. With an admitted overflowing passion for the arts, Anna has performed in several plays and musicals. An active individual, she also enjoys running, skiing, Pure Barre and just being outside. Having married her high school sweetheart, Anna and Kevan enjoy spending quality time with their daughters Emma and Maxine.
With her new role, Anna is excited about the future of Leadership Toledo. “My goal is to continue to move Leadership Toledo forward so it remains relevant and impactful in the community. We have the opportunity to affect people in such a way that after they leave our programs, they are stronger versions of themselves with a stronger sense of self and community awareness.”
