About David J. Livingston, Ph.D
On July 1, 2013, David J. Livingston officially began his term as the ninth president of Lourdes University.
Dr. Livingston came to Lourdes from Mercyhurst University in Erie, Pennsylvania, where he had served since 1997, most recently as Vice President for Advancement. Prior to that position, he had also functioned as the Associate Vice President for Advancement, Chair of the Religious Studies Department, President of Faculty Senate, and Associate Professor of Religious Studies.
In the northwest Ohio region, Dr. Livingston is proud to serve on the following boards: ProMedica Flower Hospital board, and the Regional Growth Partnership board..
Believing in the importance of community service, Dr. Livingston dedicated his time as a soccer and cross country coach at Villa Maria Elementary School for five years and volunteered with Mercyhurst students at Habitat for Humanity and the Emmaus Soup Kitchen.
According to Lourdes University Board Chair Thomas B. Geiger II, "David has a wealth of knowledge and talents that will serve our students and community well. He has a deep understanding of the needs of various student populations, and he possesses a keen understanding of what it takes to expand an institution in a caring and strategic way."
Dr. Livingston holds a B.A. in chemistry from Augustana College, a M.A. in theology from Loyola University of Chicago, and a Ph.D. in theology from Vanderbilt University.
He and his wife Joan, who is a licensed clinical social worker, have two grown children – Matt, who is in his second year of law school at Columbia University; and Sara, a recent graduate of Denison University and current member of Teach for America organization in Chicago..
It is Dr. Livingston's desire that this inaugural celebration focus on Lourdes University and its mission of providing a values-centered education, rooted in Catholic and Franciscan traditions, first established by the Sisters of St. Francis of Sylvania.
