Scholarships and Grants Offered by Lourdes University

Effective For Fall 2015

Lourdes University offers more than $4 million of institutional dollars in scholarships, grants, and awards every year. Millions of additional Federal and State financial aid dollars are also awarded to Lourdes University students who have filled out the FAFSA.

Lourdes was recently recognized as being one of the best values in higher education in the nation. Its return on investment (ROI) is ranked in the top 6% nationally, and among students receiving financial aid, Lourdes' ROI ranks in the top 1%.

Lourdes University Merit Scholarships

Academic merit scholarships are awarded competitively based on previous academic performance and standardized test scores. Applicants are automatically considered for academic merit scholarships upon receipt of all application materials. Tau Scholarships require supplemental materials.

Merit scholarships available to full-time students:

Presidential Scholarship: Up to $32,000, distributed equally over four years of full-time enrollment at Lourdes or in a Lourdes-sponsored off-campus study program (must maintain a 3.0 GPA). Approximately 50 scholarships will be offered to top applicants to the university based on previous academic performance and standardized test scores. Early application is encouraged for top consideration for these awards. (Past recipients have typically earned at least a 3.5 GPA in previous academic work with ACT or SAT scores of comparable distinction.)

Dean’s Scholarship: Up to $20,000, distributed equally over four years of full-time enrollment at Lourdes or in a Lourdes-sponsored off-campus study program (must maintain a 2.75 GPA).  Approximately 75 scholarships will be offered to excellent applicants to the university based on previous academic performance and standardized test scores. Early application is encouraged for top consideration for these awards. (Past recipients have typically earned at least a 3.0 GPA in previous academic work with ACT or SAT of comparable distinction.)

Faculty Scholarship: Up to $10,000, distributed equally over four years of full-time enrollment at Lourdes or in a Lourdes-sponsored off-campus study program (must maintain a 2.5 GPA). Approximately 100 scholarships will be offered to excellent applicants to the university based on previous academic performance and standardized test scores. Early application is encouraged for top consideration for these awards. (To be considered for this award, applicants must have a minimum 2.75 GPA in previous academic work with ACT or SAT of comparable distinction.)

Tau Scholarship: An $8,000 award, distributed equally over four years of full-time enrollment (must maintain a 2.7 GPA and have no major infractions of student policies). Recipients work an average of 4-5 hours per week with Campus Ministry. Five scholarships will be awarded annually to excellent applicants who have a 3.2 or higher GPA from high school or a transferring institution and who demonstrate potential to exemplify Catholic and Franciscan values in their relationships with others. A special application is required and must be submitted by March 31, 2015. View more details about Tau Scholarship

Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship Full-time transfer students who are members of Phi Theta Kappa are eligible for a $1000 award per academic year. Students must notify their admissions Counselor of their membership. Students must maintain good academic standing.

Academic merit scholarships available to part-time students:

Excellence Scholarship: Up to $10,000, distributed equally over a maximum of eight continuous semesters (does not include summer), available to new part-time students aged 21 years or older (must take at least 6 credit hours per semester and maintain a 2.75 GPA). Approximately 25 scholarships will be offered to excellent applicants to the university based on previous academic performance and standardized test scores. Early application is encouraged for top consideration for these awards. (To be considered for this award, applicants must have a minimum 3.0 GPA in previous academic work with ACT or SAT of comparable distinction. (Transfer students without standardized test scores can be considered.)

Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship: Part-time transfer students who are members of Phi Theta Kappa are eligible for a $500 award per academic year. Students must notify their Admissions Counselor of their membership Students must maintain good academic standing.

Lourdes University Grant Opportunities

University Grants:  The University Grants are awarded on a need and merit basis to those who have submitted a FAFSA.

Wolf Grants: Students who live 35 miles or more from campus must live in university housing and are eligible for a grant ranging from $825 to $1575 depending on their FAFSA expected family contribution. (EFC).

Honors and Scholars Housing Grant: Students who are selected to participate in the Honors Program or a Dean’s Scholar Program and who choose to live in Honors and Scholars Housing on campus will receive a grant of $1000 per year for a maximum of four years to be applied toward their housing (can be combined with the Wolf Grant). Student must maintain Honors or Scholars status.

Island Grant: Residents of Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Guam, the Northern Marianna Islands and Hawaii are eligible for a grant of $1,000 per year for a maximum of four years toward tuition only. Student must maintain continuous full-time enrollment, fall/spring and be in good standing.

Sylvania Community Improvement Corporation Scholarship Program

Award: Varies

Criteria:

  • Full-time, New to Lourdes University
  • Students from Sylvania Northview High School, Sylvania Southview High School, or any other private/parochial high school whereby the parents are taxpaying residents of Sylvania school district during the student's tenure in high school
  • Complete FAFSA process recommended
  • Complete application by April 1 (download and print the PDF)

Other Scholarships for High School Seniors who will Attend Lourdes in 2015-16

Scholarships can come from a variety of different resources, and don’t need to be repaid. Some scholarships are offered by private donors and require the application to be completed while the student is in his or her senior year of high school. Review the opportunities below; you may be just an application away from more college dollars.

Toledo Community Foundation Scholarships

  • The Toledo Community Foundation manages nearly 100 scholarship funds. Through the generosity of many families and individuals, scholarships are awarded on an annual basis from philanthropic funds which have been established with the Toledo Community Foundation. These awards assist local students in their pursuit of higher education. Visit the Toledo Community Foundation to review the many scholarships offered.

National Catholic College Admission Association Scholarships

The National CCAA will award seven $1000 one-time scholarship awards to graduating high school seniors who will be attending one of The National CCAA member institutions. Lourdes University is a participating member of the National CCAA.
