Performs coaching and management activities, including recruitment of student-athletes in a NAIA intercollegiate program.


  • Primary responsibility is the ongoing teaching and instruction of student athletes in the performance of their sport. This includes games, practices, individual and team workouts, and conditioning sessions.
  • Supports the mission and vision of the University and respects the University’s Franciscan values and tradition
  • Uses discretion and independent judgment to establish standards to identify and evaluate potential student-athletes whose athletic and academic abilities and character are compatible with Lourdes educational purpose
  • Provides significant input to the head coach in determining which schools/showcases/recruiting events to visit, which student athletes to recruit and scholarship dollars to offer
  • Develops an individualized recruiting strategy for each potential student athlete
  • Oversees the academic development of the student athlete by functioning as an informal academic advisor who assists with academic problems, facilities tutors and oversees academic study sessions
  • Ensures the academic success of the student athlete by reviewing bi-weekly progress reports submitted by faculty members and meets with at risk or other identified student athletes to review academic progress
  • Develops and implements a program for the physical development of each student-athlete through appropriate conditioning, strength training and practice
  • Assists the head coach in developing game schedules
  • Provides input to the head coach regarding team budget
  • Provides supervision to team manager, student workers, Federal Work Study student workers, and volunteers
  • Responsible for the procurement and purchasing of supplies, equipment and uniforms, etc
  • Assists in the coordination of travel arrangements for road trips
  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with all Head Coaches, Assistant Coaches, Athletic Trainers, Sports Information, and Faculty & Staff of Lourdes University
  • Assists the head coach with game management by providing input and suggestions on strategy and personnel decisions
  • Develops practice plans in conjunction with the head coach and is responsible for coaching/teaching specific segments and drills
  • Develops scouting reports on upcoming opponents using video and statistical review


  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred
  • Two years coaching experience at the collegiate level as either a graduate assistant or assistant coach required/preferred
  • Previous collegiate playing experience in designated sport required/preferred
  • Must be able to work an irregular schedule, evenings or weekends as needed, additional hours during peak times or as required
  • Must be able to demonstrate knowledge of the techniques, fundamentals and drills associated with designated sport
  • Knowledge of the rules and regulations of the NAIA, WHAC and any other governing body or association
  • Possess high energy level, strong work ethic, and a positive attitude
  • Good organizational and communication skills
  • A strong commitment to and demonstration of student athlete academic success
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently without direct supervision
  • Strong service-oriented skills and the demonstrated ability to have an exceptional customer service attitude at all times
  • Proven track record of compliance and academic integrity
