Sports Management

Bachelor of Science

A thriving industry, sports management allows graduates to pursue their career goals and fulfill their passion for athletics. Students gain valuable knowledge and hands-on experience in all business aspects of sports organizations.

The distinctive curriculum offers a broad business education and an in-depth insight into sports management at the youth, recreational, high school, college, professional, and Olympic levels. Sports Management majors benefit from local and global partnerships and relationships throughout the courses, such as Toledo Mud Hens, Detroit Pistons, and Neumann University.

Graduates work as athletic coaches and scouts, human resource professionals, and agents and in areas such as marketing, management, and training and development.

The program includes a sports management internship. Individuals can also gain insight from opportunities offered through Lourdes University’s Gray Wolf NAIA Athletics Program.

Message from the Department Chair

There is no other industry that is as vibrant and exhilarating as sports. Lourdes students explore the history of professional, college, and recreational sports, sports marketing, facilities, and leadership and immerse themselves in how legal and ethical considerations impact the sports world we experience today. Lourdes University sports management students make industry connections that include professionals from the Toledo Mud Hens, Detroit Pistons, Pittsburgh Pirates, Baltimore Orioles, and Chicago Blackhawks. Many of these connections create on-the-job learning opportunities interwoven into the curriculum for our students.

Our courses host between ten and 35 students who enjoy smaller, intimate experiences with upper-level courses. In addition, an advisory board, made up of current professionals in industries across the United States, helps guide the direction of the curriculum in career preparation. Student employment is a priority. All students must complete at least one internship before graduation.
