A passion for caring for pets and animals and improving public health often draws individuals to become veterinarians. Duties of the veterinarian include examining and diagnosing health problems, treating and dressing wounds, testing and vaccinating, prescribing medication and advising pet owners about the general care, medical conditions and best treatments for their loved ones.
Lourdes students pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Biology degree with a Pre-Veterinary Science concentration work closely with their advisor during their undergraduate studies.
Graduates have successfully gained entry into accredited Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree programs.
All states require veterinarians to pass the North American Veterinary Licensing Examination and be licensed. Additional certification is available in a variety of specialties including microbiology, internal medicine and surgery.
