Lourdes University Anti-Hazing Stance
Lourdes University promotes student engagement in student organizations, athletic teams, and other student groups as it enhances the student life experience and contributes to positive outcomes. Lourdes is dedicated to ensuring the University is a safe environment free from all forms of hazing.
All members of the University community, including students, faculty, staff, volunteers, guests, and visitors, are expected to conduct themselves in a manner that does not infringe upon the rights of others. Lourdes has a zero tolerance policy for hazing. Zero tolerance means that when an allegation of misconduct is brought to an appropriate administrator’s attention, protective and other remedial measures will be used to reasonably ensure that such conduct ends, is not repeated, and the effects on the individual whose rights have been violated as well as the effects on the community are remedied, including serious sanctions when a responding party is found to have violated University policy.
Duty to Report Hazing
Immediately upon learning of potential hazing, all Lourdes University employees (including students), volunteers, advisors, consultants, and alumni have a duty to report any alleged violation of hazing. Each mandated reporter must report to the university and law enforcement.
Reporting can be done in multiple ways:
- If an active incident is occurring on campus, call Lourdes Security immediately, at 419-574-3861.
- If an active incident is occurring off campus, call 9-1-1 immediately.

Hazing Definition
Hazing is defined by Ohio law as “doing any act or coercing another, including the victim, to do any act of initiation into any student or other organization or any act to continue or reinstate membership in or affiliation with any student or other organization that causes or creates a substantial risk of causing mental or physical harm to any person, including coercing another to consume alcohol or a drug of abuse.”
