Habitat 2017: Wednesday – Gratitude
March 8, 2017
I was not expecting to come in this Habitat for Humanity trip until Laurie mentioned it to me. I did not have many expectations coming into this trip because I have never been on one before. I am actually very honored to be able to come on this trip to serve others. My whole life I have been helping others and not expecting anything in return. This trip has impacted my life definitely in a positive way. It makes me feel grateful for everything I have in my life. We have been working at a warehouse and also going out to houses and powerwashing them. I have also gotten the privilege to talk to some of the people we are doing work for.
Today we went to Miss Sue & Dick’s house and we cleaned their house for them. I was so excited to be able to talk to them and get to know them a little bit better. When we were all finished they told us how grateful they are for us being there and helping them with tasks they cannot accomplish anymore. We all gave them a group hug and that was the highlight of my day.
At dinner, we sat around the table and talked about the highlights of our days. Everyone talked about how much being at Miss Sue and Dick’s house meant to them. After dinner, we had reflection. Today for our reflection we put up posters with everyone’s names and they sat in a chair with their names behind them. Everyone went up one by one to write one or two words about the person that was sitting down. This really made me think about how much they have impacted my life in such little time. I have made some really great friends that I believe will last me a lifetime.
