Wooden house beam with team signatures

In case you were wondering, we made it home! When we pulled into the University parking lot on Saturday evening, I was eager to get out of the van and share with the Lourdes community the peace and love of God that I was feeling so deeply after my week of service, as well as stretch my legs! Well… maybe not right away. First, I went home and slept from 8PM until 9AM Sunday morning. Then, from about 9:03 that morning until 8:30 the next morning, I was stressed about returning back to school and all of my academic responsibilities after a week away. So, 8:30 Monday morning, I was getting ready to head out the door to my internship, and I just happened to glance down at my phone on the way out the door, and I see a notification from my bible app, letting me know what the verse of the day was.

“Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet” John 13:14

I felt a weight fall off of my shoulders. I was so caught up in all of the things I needed to get done, that I had lost sight of the message I had to share with this community. I said to myself, “Okay, Shan, we are serving people today. We are loving people today. We are letting our light shine today.”

The week after habitat has been weird, because I have woken up every morning feeling like I should be building a house instead of going to class, and the cold weather has been a harsh reminder that I am in fact back in the Midwest, but it has also been beautiful to see the different ways I can incorporate the things I’ve learned over spring break into my life at Lourdes.
