Sr. Ann Carmen says that it seems like just yesterday when one of our students – Frank Zbierajewski – walked into her Campus Ministry Office and asked, “Can we get some students together to work on a Habitat build over Spring Break?” That was 20 years ago and the dream is still going strong.

At the end of this month, 24 members of the Lourdes community will head out to spend Spring Break making new connections in the community. Eighteen folks will be driving down to Pensacola, FL to once again participate in Habitat for Humanity’s Collegiate Challenge program. The other six will be flying to Guatemala City to volunteer at Valle de los Angeles (Valley of the Angels) Orphanage.

The preparations included a lock-in at the beginning of this month, and the team members were treated to a surprise visit by Frank himself. He shared his experiences and challenged each of us to be open to new friendships and new life lessons. The smiles in this group photo (minus Sr. Barb who was behind the camera) should assure you that we’ll be taking a great deal of positive Lourdes Franciscan energy out into the communities that we’ll serve. (See if you can find Frank in the midst of the group…and there’s another special visitor on the right as well)

Whenever possible we’ll be posting updates on this blog. Follow us!
Until then, check out the Toledo Blade article on the Guatemala trip.
In the meantime, we ask for your prayers and support. Pax et bonum! Peace and all good!
