AAUW Women in History Speaker Shelley Kotz as Lucretia Mott

Heritage Sylvania has partnered with Lourdes University and the Ohio Humanities Council to present a unique “Let’s Talk History” series featuring engaging and insightful historians at the 7 pm in the Franciscan Center, 6832 Convent Blvd., in Sylvania. Each presenter brings a wealth of knowledge and background in a different area of expertise. The thought-provoking and entertaining series is free and open to the public.

Co-sponsored by the Lourdes University Department of History, Geography, & Political Science and Heritage Sylvania, the “Let’s Talk History” series is made possible through a grant from the Ohio Humanities Council.

Presenter: Shelley Kotz

Lucretia Mott was a 19th century Quaker, abolitionist, social activist and women’s rights organizer. This presentation by Shelley Kotz literally brings Lucretia to life through a one-woman show.

“Black Men in Blue: The Civil War, Ohioans, and the United States Colored Troops”

Presenter: Kelly Mezurek, Professor of History at Walsh University

This presentation focuses on the Ohio black community’s response to the national conflict, the wartime participation of free black men, and the impact of their service on white Ohioans. Special attention is given to the 5th and 27th USCT.
