Sylvania Franciscan Connections and Lourdes University are commemorating Martin Luther King Jr. with Thea Bowman, Going Home Like a Shooting Star on Tuesday, January 17 from 4 to 6 pm in the Franciscan Center, 6832 Convent Blvd. in Sylvania.

The event begins with the screening of the documentary Thea Bowman, Going Home Like a Shooting Star. An African-American Franciscan singer, teacher and preacher, Sister Thea advocated for social and racial justice in the church and society. The documentary screening will be followed by commentary and a Q&A session with the filmmaker Sister Judy Zielinski, OSF, of New Group Media. Members of the Toledo School for the Performing Arts Steel Drum Band will perform during the reception.
