The Lifelong Learning Monthly Lecture Series aims to bring outstanding speakers to our community. Join us for refreshments at 9:15 a.m. followed by presentations from outstanding speakers from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. in the Franciscan Center.
Sports are a traditional aspect of the college experience, but the rules governing athletics are constantly evolving. We will discuss current challenges in collegiate sports, including the women’s movement and equality initiatives, and compare the NAIA and NCAA. Recently the Supreme Court ruled that the NCAA cannot limit education-related benefits to college athletes, a decision that will have far reaching impacts. Several states now allow athletes to be compensated for use of their name, image, and likeness. As inside view of collegiate athletics will be presented by Janet Eaton, Vice President of Athletics at Lourdes University.
Janet Eaton joined Lourdes University as Athletics Director 2018. Under her leadership, the Gray Wolves have been named a NAIA Gold Five-Star Institution for three consecutive years, the first gold awards in the department’s history. She has been responsible for adding new sports at Lourdes –men’s and women’s tennis, women’s wrestling, along with resurrecting the track program for both men and women– and sponsorships from Team Sports and Under Armor. Eaton has received numerous awards, most recently the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Athletics Director of the Year after guiding the Gray Wolves through the ever-changing COVID-19 landscape.
