Tau Scholar Senior Spotlight – Shannon White
Spring term is always an exciting time for our Senior Tau Scholars. Each of them took some time out of their hectic schedules to share a few reflections about their time at Lourdes and their future plans.
Name: Shannon White
Home city: Clarkston, MI
First enrolled at Lourdes: Fall 2016
Primary focus as a Tau Scholar: Social Justice and Service Outreach
Highlight of your time here: My favorite part about being a tau scholar is all the little moments of joy, love, and laughter that I have been privileged enough to share with my fellow tau scholars during house shifts and other events. There are so many simple exchanges, hugs, and deep conversations that I will hold in my heart forever.
A favorite experience while a Lourdes student: My favorite experience that I have had during my time at Lourdes has been my most recent Habitat for Humanity trip. I could not have asked for a better team of people to embark on this journey with. We all got so much closer than I could have possibly imagined as the week progressed. We were in the best hands while we were in North Carolina; every single person that we met was a blessing. Not to mention, Jenn and Tim were absolute SAINTS throughout the entire week for dealing with all our craziness and putting in tons of work at the work site. I am sad to close this chapter of my life, but I could not have asked for a better ending.
What do you hope to do with your degree? I plan to continue on to graduate school to get my master’s in social work after a brief gap year working in Disney World!
Other message for students and/or future Tau Scholars: Please do not take this community for granted. There are so many people that love you, and they are never far away when you need them.
Honors that you’ve received
- Theta Alpha Kappa inductee 2020
- St. Catherine Medal 2020
- Campus Ministry Mission Outreach Award 2019
- Student Organization of the Year 2019
- Dean’s List Spring 2018, Fall 2018, Spring 2019, Fall 2019
- WHAC All Academic Team (Golf) 2019
What do you like to do as a hobby or in your free time? I love to sing and spend as much time outdoors as possible
Other activities you’ve been involved while at Lourdes: Women’s Golf Team, Lourdes Chorale, Lourdes A Cappella, L.I.N.K., Residence Life
Something Profound that you want to say: Instead of looking back and thinking about who you could have been and what you could have done better, invest in your current self and your ability to grow. Imagine who you could become.
