Lourdes University President Mary Ann Gawelek, Ed.D., delivered a Presidential State of the University Address to members of the education, non-profit and government sector. During the address, President Gawelek announced a new grant to assist families fund their student’s college education, additional academic programs, a new athletic program and a change to the admissions policy.

To celebrate families who are the heart of our nation and economy, Lourdes is proud to offer the Heart of America Grant. Through the Lourdes Heart of America Grant, new Undergraduate students with a total family household income of $100,000 or less can qualify for this institutional grant. Full-time residential students will receive $16,000 ($4,000 per year) for up to four years. Full-time commuter students will receive $8,000 ($2,000 per year) for up to four years. To be eligible, all students are required to complete the FAFSA.

Beginning Fall 2020, Lourdes University will adopt a Test-Optional admissions policy, in an effort to make education more accessible. Submission of ACT and SAT test scores will become optional, eliminating barriers for students with learning differences and English language learners, to name a few.

Lourdes is preparing an application for the Higher Learning Commission for approval to begin competency based education programs. “Experience Matters” a competency based education program, places emphasis on affordability, accessibility and flexibility. The perfect option for adult learners balancing multiple responsibilities and juggling busy schedules.

Expanding athletics, Lourdes will add Women’s Wrestling to the list of NAIA teams. One of the fastest growing scholastic sports, Kate Hill will coach the inaugural program. Coach Hill previously served as a graduate assistant at Campbellsville University. During the 2018-19 season, Coach Hill finished fourth at the NAIA National Invitational, produced an individual national champion and two national runners-up.
