Northwest Ohio Aspiring Teachers Attend Education Day at Lourdes University
Lourdes University is a leader in teacher education programs in our service area. As a leader in our service area, Lourdes University is hosting an Aspiring Teachers Day on Wednesday, November 8, 2023, from 9:30 a.m. until 1:45 p.m. at the Franciscan Center.
Approximately, 125 high school juniors and seniors from Cardinal Stritch High School & Academy, Central Catholic High School, Evergreen Local Schools, Penta Career Center, Sylvania Schools, and Washington Local Schools will gain valuable information from Lourdes professors and education students, and teaching professionals. Attendees will listen to a keynote speech from Mr. Matt Horan, Assistant Principal of Swanton Middle School, engage in breakout sessions, tour Lourdes University, and enjoy lunch and prizes.
Lourdes University continues to be committed to expanding our educational pipeline. According to the Ohio Education Association (OEA) and the Center for American Progress, fewer individuals are choosing to become teachers. As the number of educators who have chosen to retire early or resign has risen, the need for teachers is increasingly critical. Lourdes University has a track record of preparing excellent teachers through several undergraduate and graduate programs including primary, middle childhood, adolescence to young adult, and special education. 100% of Lourdes’ 2022-2023 Education graduates successfully obtained teaching jobs.
Vincent Laverick, Ed.D., Division of Education Chair, noted, “For the second year, we are excited to encourage local juniors and seniors to consider education as a profession. The event will be an overwhelming success if these young minds leave encouraged and motivated to pursue a teaching career. Schools everywhere need great teachers and Northwest Ohio is the home of some wonderful young minds ready to be the leaders in classrooms of tomorrow.”
