Week of Service benefits local non-profit agencies
During the Lourdes Serves 2017 Week of Service (Oct. 1-7, 2017), more than 270 students, faculty, staff, administration and alumni completed 685 hours of community service at 15 non-profit agencies within the region. The Week of Service initiative coincided with the Association of Franciscan Colleges and Universities (AFCU) National Service Initiative in recognition of St. Francis Week.
This marks the fourth year that Lourdes University offered a week of service. Last year, the University community engaged in a morning of service in recognition of St. Francis Week and the inauguration of President Mary Ann Gawelek.
“During the Week of Service, we enjoyed spending time with some of our long-standing community partners, serving and hopefully bringing attention to the needs of the homeless and the marginalized, the populations that St. Francis so frequently challenged us to remember, says Sr. Barbara Vano, OSF, Director of Campus Ministry and Service Learning.
The non-profit agencies that were served:
- Alzheimer’s Association of NW Ohio
- Baby University
- Connecting Kids to Meals
- East Toledo Senior Center
- Helping Hands of St Louis
