I moved to Toledo from Santa Cruz, CA with the intention of going to college nearby family. At the recommendation of a family friend who had recently graduated from the Lourdes Early Education Program, I decided to tour the university that had inspired so much praise from him to see if it would be a good fit for me. I knew that I had always done well in school when I had a strong support system and a smaller class size, which he emphatically told me I would find at Lourdes University.
When I visited the Lourdes campus for the first time, it was December, with a significant amount of snow on the ground. As I came in the front doors, I was immediately greeted by a friendly face at the front desk, and directed to the Registrar. I was made a cup of hot cocoa, and a student was found to give me a tour within minutes of my arrival. I was made to feel very welcome, and by the end of my visit, I knew that I would be joining not only an academic institution upon enrolling, but community invested in my success.
Throughout my academic career at Lourdes, I have felt as though the faculty truly care about my success, both academically and personally. My professors have been not only knowledgeable but also incredibly kind, accommodating, and always ready with words of encouragement. My classes are small and I have never felt like a number. Iām proud to say that I will be graduating in Spring 2017, and I never could have done it without the faculty and staff here at Lourdes. Their positive impact on my present and future success is immeasurable, as they have helped me to learn more about myself and what I want for my future.
I am #LourdesStrong because of the supportive community that I have found here, because of which I will be able to successfully go forward to the next phase of my life, full of gratitude and a renewed sense of purpose.
